My grandfather, Howard Cleveland Loyd, died on February 6, 1980. He was buried in Macon, GA, in a brass urn. When my grandmother, his wife, was buried in June 2011, it was decided that they should be interred together. But instead of putting Blanche in the ground with PopPop, he was dis-interred and moved to
St. James' Church in Knoxville, the parish of my childhood and where my parents are still active members. His urn would not fit in the niche, so we had to "move him" to another container.
There was a question about what to do the urn, though. Being the only grandchild PopPop knew before he died, I asked if I could have it. Remember, it had been in the ground for 31 years. It's in rough shape. But I am determined to restore it. It may not look like brand new, but I've gotten a good start. I'll post more pictures as I do more work.

Before any scrubbing happened.
At some point, I have to tighten the nut and bolt connecting the base to the top. |

The other side. |
|
The top. (This is important. Pay attention...) |
|
Check out that top. It was about 45-minutes of scrubbing with "Bar Keeper's Friend." |
|
So there was a lot of scrubbing. I polished this little section with some brass polish. |
|
As you can see, there is still lots of work to be done.... Stay tuned. |
